Tanfield retains its leading set ranking in Real Estate Litigation in the Chambers and Partners UK Bar Guide 2027
October 21, 2026

We are delighted to announce that Tanfield has once again been ranked as a Band 2 set for Real Estate Litigation in the Chambers and Partners UK Bar Guide 2027, published on 15 October 2026. This year, 17 of our members hold 19 individual rankings between them, including two new rankings and four members who have moved up a band.

A leading set for Real Estate Litigation

Chambers highlights the expertise of our members in landlord and tenant disputes, from lease disputes to development issues, together with our well-established enfranchisement practice. The guide also notes that the set is “incredibly well versed in matters pertaining to the Building Safety Act 2022”.

New rankings

We are particularly pleased to congratulate two members on new rankings this year.

Marc Glover has gained a new Band 4 ranking in Chancery: Commercial, alongside his existing Band 4 ranking in Real Estate Litigation.

Robyn Cunningham is now ranked in Real Estate Litigation at Band 5. Clients describe her as “meticulous, diligent” and say she “produces beautiful written work”, with one adding that “Robyn is a very strong landlord and tenant specialist”.

Moving up a band

Four members have moved up a band in Real Estate Litigation.

Mark Loveday and Piers Harrison have both moved up from Band 3 to Band 2. One client said “Mark is excellent on his feet and on paper”, while another described Piers as “brilliant in every aspect”.

Sam Madge-Wyld and Richard Granby have each progressed from Band 5 to Band 4. Sam “was masterful in breaking down the issues” according to one client, and another described Richard’s knowledge of property law as “encyclopedic”.

Star Individual and Band 1

Philip Rainey KC remains a Star Individual. Chambers notes that he “continues to be regarded as one of the Bar’s finest property silks”, and one client called him “the enfranchisement king; no one in the country knows more about it”. Another said “his calm and authoritative advocacy is second to none”.

Edward Denehan retains his Band 1 ranking. One client said “Edward’s advocacy skills are tremendous; as good as any silk I’ve come across”, while another described him as “a trusted name in property disputes”.

What our clients say

One interviewee commented that the Tanfield team “has the strength in depth to cover any type or size of property related dispute”. Another added that “its expertise in lease extensions, collective enfranchisements and service charge disputes is unmatched, and the quality of advice and advocacy across the set consistently enhances outcomes for our clients”.

Our practice management team was also singled out for praise. One client said “the clerking is simply brilliant”, and another described the team as “highly responsive and commercially astute, ensuring that instructions are handled efficiently and that the overall experience of working with the set is seamless”. Senior practice managers Richard Powell and Alex Southern were both mentioned by name, with Richard described as “a star” and Alex as “very accommodating”.
