Overview
Having been called to the Bar in 2024, and upon completion of his pupillage in chambers, Sami joined Tanfield as a tenant in September 2025. His practice encompasses property and insolvency law, and he is particularly interested in issues relating to securities over land, property related fraud and transactions concerning interests in land.
His property work encompasses a wide range of disputes with a focus on all types of possession proceedings, injunctions, disrepair, breach of covenant and easements. He also handles commercial and residential landlord and tenant work as well as property related professional negligence.
He has a specific interest in mortgages, including issues relating to the relevant consumer protection legislation.
His insolvency work covers both individual and corporate matters, and he has experience of representing both creditors and debtors.
Insolvency
As to his insolvency work, Sami has:
(a) Been led as a junior in the Supreme Court in Mitchell v Al-Jaber, a case worth c. £50 million and raising issues in relation to fiduciary duties, equitable compensation, and the exclusion of unpaid vendor’s liens;
(b) Been led in Resisting an application to set aside a statutory demand, which raised issues under the law of agency and contractual variation; and
(c) Appeared for the debtor in a bankruptcy petition relating to a personal guarantee arising from a deed of termination.
Property
Under his property practice, Sami has recently:
(a) Successfully resisted an urgent interim injunction to restrain a breach of covenant in relation to a large residential development;
(b) Appeared in the First-tier Tribunal in a case concerning the recoverability of service charges under schedule 8 to the Building Safety Act 2022;
(c) Advised and appeared led in an ongoing High Court dispute concerning the composition of the lawful board of a resident management company;
(d) Advised on the potential liability of a supplier of building materials under the Misrepresentation Act 1967, as well as the prospects of bringing a negligence action against an approved building inspector; and
(e) Advised on the prospects of defending a claim raising issues under the Landlord and Tenant (Covenants) Act 1995.
