November 3, 2015

Tanfield’s Gemma de Cordova has been re-elected to the Bar Council for a further three year term.

With three years’ experience as a member of the Bar Council, Gemma says:

“As a parent at the bar, I am keen that the issues of support for parents; retention; and progression in the profession remain firmly on the agenda.” She added: “Through my role on the Bar Council I will continue to support my fellow barristers in the varied and important work of the Bar Council and I am delighted to have been re-elected for another three year term.”

Members of the Bar Council give their time on a voluntary basis to further the work of the Bar Council on behalf of the profession. They attend regular meetings throughout the year and are actively involved in a variety of projects, primarily through a committee structure. To date Gemma has been involved in the work of the following committees: Young Bar; Equality & Diversity & Social Mobility; and Education and Training.

The Bar Council represents barristers in England and Wales; it has a wide range of representative and service functions. It works extensively with government and other bodies on matters affecting the administration of justice. The Bar Council promotes the Bar’s high quality specialist advocacy and advisory services; fair access to justice for all; the highest standards of ethics; equality and diversity across the profession; and the development of business opportunities for barristers in the UK and internationally.
