The courts have found something service charge-related for everyone in the past twelve months: the consequences of the Court of Appeal’s judgment in the Moorjani disrepair case are likely to be felt by landlords in the First-tier Tribunal; in Cain it became clear that prompt action to dispute a service charge is important to avoid any suggestion of an admission of liability to pay; the Upper Tribunal’s decision inHemmise examined the circumstances which justify the re-opening of issues which appear to have already been definitively determined, and we were treated to an exposition of VAT law in Ingram.

At the time of writing, we await the Upper Tribunal’s decisions in the rule 13 costs appeals.
