ALEP describe the event as follows:

“The recent Government consultation on ‘tackling unfair practices in the leasehold market’ hasraised many interesting questions concerning the future of leasehold as a form of residential land tenure in the 21st century.It has also indicated that Commonhold should be reviewed as an alternative to the residential leasehold system. 

Commonhold has been on the statute books since 2004 when the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002 came into force.

In this lecture, we bring together experts in the field for an indepth look at the issues which could have a major impact on the sector. Professor James Driscoll, Peter Haler MBE and Philip Rainey QC will explore the background to Commonhold and consider the reasons why it has been relatively unsuccessful to date.

We will also be looking at what amendments would need to be made to current Commonhold legislation to encourage take-up and make it more effective, and what the implications could be for the sector as a whole.”
