Overview
Dr Christy Burzio in an experienced and recommended barrister in all arears of residential and commercial landlord and tenant matters.
She has a particular expertise in multi-day trials and complex applications. She regularly appears in the County Court, High Court, First-Tier Tribunal and Appellant Courts. She is extremely thorough in her approach and is always client focused, providing practical and commercial advice.
Christy was awarded a doctorate in Law from King’s College London. Before coming to the Bar, Christy enjoyed a successful academic career. She has lectured at Russell Group Universities and has been published worldwide. She is regularly invited to undertake seminars across the country on her core practice areas.
Christy has recently written a dedicated chapter in ‘Building Safety Act 2022’ (ed. Andrew Butler KC and Ian Quayle, Law Society 2024)
On 3 November 2022, Christy was appointed to the Bar Standard Board’s Independent Decision-Making Body. This body hears cases of apparent breaches of the BSB Handbook of regulated individuals and administrative decisions related to licences and authorisations. She has been appointed for a three-year term.

Notable cases
- Bangs v FM Conway Ltd [2024] EWHC 494 (Comm), Christy successfully set-aside a default judgment against the Claimant’s £200,000 claim and achieved an 80 days extension for the Claimant to serve her particulars of claim.
- Forbes v Omosule (2023) (Unreported) (Appeal) (HHJ Cadwallader), Christy successfully appealed an order from Liverpool County Court which found s.213-214 of the Housing Act 2004 did not allow for multiple breaches. The Claimant was awarded damages and costs.
- Wren v Chambers (2023) (Appeal) (HJJ Saggerson), Christy resisted the appeal of the Defendant who argued that the Court had no jurisdiction pursuant to s.168 CLRA 2002 to grant a declaration.
- Pincus v Singh & Another [2023] EWHC 2997 (Ch): Chisty successfully opposed a set-aside application of a default judgment against a defendant who it was held had the defendant failed to adhere to an injunctive order.
- Pincus v Johal and Venus Property Holdings (2022) (Justice Miles) (Unreported) (Justice Miles) (Unreported) Christy successfully obtained a mandatory and prohibitory injunction on an interim basis against the freehold company and an individual as the Respondents jointly interfered with the Applicant’s commercial right of way by demolishing a platform. The Court ordered the platform be reinstated, prohibited any further interference and awarded her clients over £13,000 in costs.
- Siddiqi v Lechus (2022) (Unreported) (Appeal) (HHJ Luba KC) Christy acted for the Respondent on appeal regarding a possession order. The matter was adjourned due to submitted faults in the Applicant’s appeal with a favourable costs order for her client. The matter later settled.
- Fernandez v Iceland Foods Ltd [2021] EWHC 3723 (QB) (Justice Cotter) Christy acted for the appellant in the court of appeal regarding the legal standard to be imposed where a claimant seeks to instruct a new medical expert in a personal injury claim owing to a stark change of opinion. The case drew media attention.
